Can you believe we’re more than half way through January already? That means Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Are you ready for it?
Honestly, I’ve had Valentine’s Day on the brain for a while now. I mean when stores start putting everything up the second Christmas is done it’s hard not to think it about.
The amount of things needed for Valentine’s Day still tends to sneak up on me though. Between the kiddo needing valentines for all the kids in class, a cute box to put them in, and school parties, sometimes the spouse gift gets put on the back burner.
If you’re like me then don’t worry. I’ve got you covered with a super simple, but thoughtful, gift that’s still DIY. I like to call it Date Your Spouse for a Year. It’s full of printable date night coupons that get stored in a cute gift box.

Here’s how it works. You come up with 12 date ideas; one for each month of the year. Write them on a small slip of paper, cut them out, roll them up in a cute, little scroll and tie with some ribbon.
Of course we made this step easier by making you some super adorable printables you can use but you can absolutely hand write your own too.
Make sure to write the corresponding month on the outside of each scroll. Throw all 12 coupons in a cute box or decorated jar and give to your significant other on Valentine’s Day or any other special occasion.
The dollar store has great boxes in both the Valentine’s and gift wrap sections if you don’t have one on hand to use. A ball jar could also be decorated and used for this gift.

You can print out these coupons with no prior thought to how you’ll use them. However, a little planning goes a long way into making these date night coupons into a really thoughtful gift.
1. Keep the seasons in mind when picking a date.
Remember to write the month on the outside of each coupon scroll. This will help you keep track of the seasons when choosing date ideas.
A hike might not be great for the month of January so save it for a month with better weather. Incorporating holiday ideas into your date nights can be fun too. You can go to a pumpkin patch or see some Christmas lights.
2. Pre-Buy
It can be helpful to pre-buy somethings to use on your dates, like a gift card to the movies or your favorite restaurant. You can even pre-make a little basket with bath bombs or bubble bath for shower/bath date night. Another idea is to wrap some cash into one of the scrolls to be used for that date.
3. Be vague!
Don’t write the entire date out. It’s fun to plan the dates together. Write a prompt like, “grab a book” and then have fun deciding what that means.
Maybe you go to the library and choose one book you can read together in bed every night that month. Or you could go to the book store, where you each buy your own book and then discuss why you picked it. Being obscure with just a date hint allows you to get creative together.
4. No babysitters needed
Make some dates easy to accomplish once the kids go to bed so you don’t need to spend money on a babysitter. You can also plan a couple of dates that include the kids or you can make this a family Valentine’s gift and include the kids for all of the activities.
5. There are a couple of times you can open your coupons.
You can open each months coupon right before you set out on your date to emphasize the surprise and incorporate the discussion of what your date prompt means into the date itself.

This is a gift idea you can do every year. Don’t think because you already did it last year that you can’t do it again this year. I made a Date Night Coupons Gift Box for my partner years ago and he periodically brings up how we need to make another one.
