Equipment

  • Measuring cups
  • Double Boiler or pot and glass bowl
  • hand or stand mixer
  • Jar for storing

Materials

  • 1/4 cup Shea Butter
  • 1/4 cup Cocoa Butter
  • 1/4 cup Almond Oil
  • 1/4 cup Coconut Oil
  • 1 dropper Vitamin E Oil optional
  • 1-15 drops Peppermint Oil optional

Instructions

  • Start by measuring out equal parts or a 1/4 cup of the 4 main ingredients; Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Almond Oil, Coconut oil. Then add them to the double broiler.
  • Heat up your ingredients making sure to stir them from time to time. As they melt, they will become liquid and translucent. Your ingredients are done melting once there are no solids left in the pot and it is all liquid.
  • Stir in the Vitamin E. You just need one dropper full.
  • You are then going to turn off the heat and use your hot pads to set the bowl aside to cool. You can put the mixture in the refrigerator or freezer to speed up the process but you don’t want the mixture to get too hard. Because of this, set a timer so you remember to check on it from time to time, especially if you put it in the freezer.
  • Your mixture will be done cooling once it is back to being opaque and soft to the touch, with no liquid left. You don’t want to cool it so long that it hardens all the way back up, because that will make it much harder to whip.
  • Once it is cooled with no liquid left you can start mixing it using a standing mixer or your hand mixer. Using a hand mixer will take about 5 to 10 minutes. You want to keep mixing until it turns white in color and has the consistency of a light frosting.
  • Add in your essential oil. Peppermint oil is a strong oil though, so it’s always better to start with just a few drops. Mix it in, then give it a smell. If it’s to your liking, no need to add more. If it’s not quite strong enough, add a few more drops, and mix them in.
  • Your body butter is ready and can be transferred to an airtight container for storage.
