Hair Growth Oil

On average most human beings shed between 50 and 100 strands of hair a day.  That seems like an awful lot. We also can experience extra hair loss in times of stress or poor health.  Not to mention that different people were born with different thicknesses of hair.

My hair compared to my daughter’s hair is outrageous.  I have about 1/4 the amount and thickness of hair that she does.  It took me over an hour to curl her hair for homecoming whereas this morning it took me about 15 minutes to curl my hair for church.

In other words, I could benefit from a hair oil that could help give me more thickness and length because my hair also grows extremely slow.  It takes me about 3 years to grow my hair from a short hair cut to a long one.

I think it is safe to say that everyone has wished for longer, fuller and healthier hair at some point in their life. Well what if I told you that you could make a concoction at home that will help all of those things come true?

Not only that, but it is easy to make and use on your scalp. Using an amber glass bottle with a dropper and a mixture of the right carrier oils and essential oils, and your hair can be growing longer and getting healthier in no time.

So whether you want to reduce hair loss, get thicker hair or even just grow your hair out faster, this hair growth recipe with natural ingredients could be the thing you need. Homemade hair oil is easy, fairly cheap and can last up to two years if stored properly.

Best Carrier Oil For Hair?

Carrier oils are natural, plant-based oils used to dilute essential oils and help carry them onto the skin during aromatherapy or massage. They’re often used as a base for essential oils because they’re gentler on the skin and help spread the essential oil over a larger area.

There are several carrier oils that have properties that are great for your scalp and hair. Here are the best oils you can use in your homemade hair oil:

  • Coconut Oil– Coconut oil contains anti bacterial and anti fungal properties that can be great for fighting off infections on your scalp.  It can also repair split ends and help your hair grow faster and healthier. It absorbs quickly, providing moisture that helps with frizz and helps stop breakage. It reduces the protein loss in hair and protects from harmful rays of the sun. It has antimicrobial properties which help fight off dandruff, scalp acne and dermatitis. It is rich in vitamin E which helps protect hair follicles from oxidative damage.
  • Castor Oil– Castor oil has antibacterial and anti fungal properties which can help or reduce dandruff. It is a long-chained fatty acid which can provide essential proteins and nutrients to hair follicles and prevent inflammation. It can also increase gloss or shine of the hair and help increase hair shaft flexibility.
  • Argan Oil– Argan oil is rich in vitamin E, fatty acids and antioxidants. It serves as a natural conditioner because it is very moisturizing. It has much smaller molecules than other oils which means it can more easily penetrate hair cuticles. Therefore hair is softer. It can also help with dryness, which can mean less tangles.
  • Jojoba Oil– Jojoba oil contains lots of vitamins, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. It can help treat eczema and psoriasis. It can also sooth dry skin on the scalp and provide hydration to it. It can help treat frizz by creating a protective layer over each hair strand which also helps lock in moisture. It can also stimulate healthy hair growth.
  • Avocado Oil– Avocado oil contains potassium and magnesium which are both great for keeping in moisture and hydrating the hair. It also acts as a natural detangled when on the ends of the hair. It contains natural fatty acids that can repair the hair cuticle and prevent further breakage. Avocado oil also contains a rich blend of proteins and folic acid and can reduce an itchy scalp and promotes scalp health. It can be a popular choice for homemade hair masks
  • Almond Oil– Almond oil has anti-inflammatory properties. It is ideal for lightweight and fine hair.

Best Essential Oils For Hair?

Essential oils are a big part of this healthy hair oil. Here are some you can use:

  • Peppermint oil– peppermint oil has a soothing and cooling effect on irritated or dry skin.  It also has pain relieving properties. Peppermint is also known to significantly increase hair growth.  It is anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antimicrobial.
  • Lavender oil– Lavender oil helps support hair growth and thickness. It helps maintain scalp health
  • Tea Tree Oil– This essential oil is famous for helping hair. It is great at nourishing the hair. With its antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties it is great on a dry, itchy scalp. It really helps soothe the scalp and gets rid of bacteria and fungi. This helps clear the scalp of any dirt and built up product. It can also help slow down oil production if you have extra oily hair.
  • Rosemary Oil– Both antibacterial and antifungal properties can help scalp and hair health by helping get rid of over grown bacteria and yeast which can cause itching and hair fall. It is also very rich in antioxidants which can protect hair from oxidative stress. Stressed follicles cant grow quality hair which than promotes premature hair loss
  • Cedarwood Oil– Cedarwood improves blood flow to your scalp and it also is great at supporting the hair follicle. It also can balance oil on your scalp as well as keep that scalp of yours healthy. All of those together will help improve hair growth.
  • Vitamin E Oil– Vitamin E promotes natural hair growth because like a lot of the other things in our list, it is full of antioxidants. It stimulates scalp blood flow which is important for fast hair growth and thickness. Vitamin is also helps stabilize the other oils in your growth oil which helps the shelf life.

How to Make Hair Growth Oil

I’ve got a great hair oil recipe for you. However, you can mix and match things based on what you have on hand. The combination I’m giving you is a rock star though.

Supplies Needed

Ingredients

DIY Hair Growth Oil

You can use a small glass mason jar to add all of the ingredients and then transfer them to your amber glass jar. OR you can just pour everything directly into the amber glass jar.

I like to keep things simple and I hate extra dishes so I am just mixing it right into the amber glass jar. If you have a small funnel it might help with messiness but if you do not have one, it is really no big deal.

  1. 1 1/2 TBSP Coconut oil ( fractionated )
  2. 1 1/2 tsp of Argon Oil
  3. 1 tsp JoJoba Oil
  4. 3 Drops os Rosemary essential oil
  5. 3 Drops of Peppermint essential oil
  6. 2 Drops Tea Tree essential oil
  7. 2 Drops Lavender essential oil
  8. 2 Drops Vitamin E oil

Pour all of the ingredients into your glass amber jar. Put on lid and gently shake. The ingredients should mix well.

How To Apply Hair Oil for Growth

Working in sections, apply a few drops of hair oil directly onto your scalp and to the roots. Once you have covered your entire scalp, gently massage the oil into your skin with your fingertips. This will stimulate blood flow to the follicles for better results.

Leave the oil in your hair for an hour before you wash it out. If you wish to do a deeper moisturizer, you can leave it on over night. You may wish to put a shower cap on to prevent your pillow case from getting oily.

Some find it useful to use a conditioner on their hair before shampooing it to help get all of the oil out of it. I find a clarifying shampoo works well.

It is ideal to do this once or twice a week. If you would like to do it more, you can. Just be sure you are getting out all of the oil when you wash.

Use this new routine to add “me time” into your week. Better yet if you have a partner who is willing, see if they will massage it into your scalp for you so you can have a truely relaxing and spa like experience.
